The news of a new electric LiveWire does not come as a shock.
Even before Harley-Davidson LiveWire spun off, we knew there was going to be a new motorcycle, probably called the Del Mar.
The official teaser video confirms the imminent launch, but Harley-Davidson talked about this bike months ago at investor meetings.
From the outset, we expected this machine to be priced lower than the Harley-Davidson LiveWire and the subsequent LiveWire One.
Those machines were aimed at bikers with a well-filled wallet, and while the new Del Mar will undoubtedly be a premium motorcycle, the aim seems to be to lower the purchase price while improving the motorcycle's performance in various ways to achieve a appeal to a larger group of buyers.
The name Del Mar itself is a reference to the Del Mar racetrack in California, a legendary track on the Westcoast with roots in the 1930s.
For American bikers, especially on the West Coast, the name is a powerful piece of branding, and it fits the flat track nostalgia that Harley-Davidson has carried with the Street series for years.
It looks like LiveWire is going to take the same tack, and watching the video will show you not only vintage tracker action, but a brief, blurry glimpse of the new bike.
