The Africa Eco Race is an annual rally raid, organised in France and run in North and West Africa, launched after the cancellation of 2008 Dakar Rally, and the subsequent moving of the rally to South America.
Everybody knows the reason why the Africa Eco Race in 2021 was canceled, for the 2022 edition it looks more promising.
The race is 12 stages long and goes through Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal and arriving at the Lac Rose (Pink Lake).
Yamaha has a long and storied history racing in Africa, starting in 1979 with victory for Cyril Neveu in the first ever running of the Paris Dakar Rally.
The aim for Yamaha is to prove that the Tenere World Raid is up to the task and prepare an extensive customer program.
But to be fair, it's a way forward for Yamaha after the disappointing results in the last official Dakar Rallies.
The Yamaha Ténéré World Raid Team will be run on behalf of Yamaha by Rebel X Sports under the direction of Team Manager, and experienced Rally Raid campaigner, Manuel Lucchese.
We know Manuel from his awesome youtube channel on which he modified some jaw-dropping bikes to rally specs.
Italian Alessandro Botturi, winner of the previous two editions of the race, and Spaniard Pol Tarres, who contested the 14th edition of the rally, will be driving a race version of the recently launched Ténéré 700 World Raid.
We wish them all the luck in this impressive old-Dakar-style race!
